My Passion Media is a Greater Vancouver company that builds and runs businesses in commerce and logistics. We started in publishing, grew into subscription commerce, and built our own fulfillment and software along the way. Today MPM is owned and operated by partners Kevin Hinton and Ryan McKenzie, and operates two companies: Breakthrough Studio and CanShip.
How we got here
My Passion Media is founded
We start in publishing with Explore Magazine, Canadian Traveller, and British Columbia Magazine.
Subscription commerce
We launch the Live the Adventure Gear Box, a quarterly outdoor gear box we ship ourselves. That starts our in-house fulfillment, and we soon add box prep and mailing for other Vancouver brands, reaching roughly 10,000 boxes a quarter at peak.
Tru Earth launches
We launch Tru Earth as an MPM brand. It grows into one of Canada's fastest-growing DTC startups.
Our first warehouse
Tru Earth's growth pushes us into our first 12,000 sq ft warehouse. We write our own software to run it, the earliest version of what becomes CanShip.
Breakthrough Studio is formed
We open our fulfillment operation to outside clients and Breakthrough Studio takes shape. The same year, Tru Earth spins out into its own company.
Across North America
Breakthrough Studio expands into the United States with distribution nodes in San Diego and Charlotte.
CanShip launches
We productize the warehouse software we built into CanShip, the Canadian-native WMS, with Breakthrough Studio as its first client.
